Bacon and Brew ("the App") is operated by Zero Admin (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa ("we", "us", "our"). We are committed to protecting your personal information in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account information: email address and display name provided at registration via Firebase Authentication.
• Location data: approximate or precise location, used to surface nearby food and drink venues. This is only collected when you grant permission.
• Usage data: interactions with the App such as searches, venue views, check-ins, and ratings.
• User-generated content: reviews, photos, and other content you voluntarily submit.
• Device information: device type, operating system version, and app version for diagnostics.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and personalise the App's core features.
• To display nearby venues relevant to your location.
• To maintain the integrity and trust rating of community content.
• To diagnose technical issues and improve app performance.
• To comply with our legal obligations under POPIA and applicable law.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal information on the following bases:

• Contractual necessity: to provide the services you have requested.
• Legitimate interests: to improve the App and prevent abuse.
• Consent: for location access and optional personalisation features.
• Legal obligation: where required by South African law or regulation.

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services which may process your data:

• Google Firebase — authentication and backend infrastructure. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Cloudflare — content delivery and API infrastructure.
• OpenStreetMap contributors — mapping data (no personal data shared).

We do not sell your personal information to any third party.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time. Usage and analytics data may be retained in aggregate, anonymised form indefinitely.

6. Your Rights

Under POPIA you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information. Under GDPR you additionally have rights of portability, restriction, and objection. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@somewhatlabs.com.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS).

8. Children

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
